Can Protected DVDs be Copied Also?
Making copies of DVDs is sometimes more difficult than you think. It is not possible to get the DVD and copy it to your computer. The reason is that there are many copyright protections, which are specifically designed to create unreadable copies. In the best case, you can copy the audio information from the DVD but the video information will be missing. But there are many ways to get around copyright protected DVDs.
It might seem an easy job to copy a DVD but you can?t do it without a program, which decrypts the DVD contents and reduces the size of the data. Manufacturers were forced to resort to such protections that do not allow to make a working copy because there were many people, who made millions of pirated copies.
There are several things you need to know before you start copying DVDs. First, copyright laws do not allow to make a profit from someone else?s work. Second, the only case when you can legally copy a DVD is for personal use only.
The next step is to find a good DVD ripper. DVDShrink was a great program but since it is not maintained anymore, now it can?t deal with all the new copyright protections. This is no wonder ? when millions of people copy DVDs illegally, it is quite logical that companies will invest heavily in technology, which prevents that.
However, copying a DVD for personal use is OK. Having in mind the prices of movies and games, the budget of many families does not allow to buy new copies, if the old one breaks.
DVDs wear out the more you play them, so there is a real danger that the DVDs with your favorite movies will wear out quickly. So, backup copies come to the rescue. You do this with a tool such as RipitforMe, which decrease the file size of DVDs so that they can fit onto a smaller DVD. But this program was discontinued in April 2007. Additionally, before you decrease the file size, you must rip the DVD with a program such as DVD Fab Decrypter. If this program does not work because the copyright protection measures are too strong, try another program, which might be more successful at bypassing them.
The best time to make a backup copy is when the DVD is new. If the DVD has been played a lot, it might be scratched, which could result in loss of data and/or poor quality. So, if you want to make a backup copy of a favorite movie of yours ? i.e. the favorite movies of your children, do it before the DVD is worn out due to frequent viewing.
So, if you have a favorite DVD, it is possible to make backup copies for personal use. However you must find a program that is capable of handling the newest safeguards imposed to protect copyrighted information. Then, you can enjoy favorite games and videos for years to come.
